BIBLE/CHURCH REVISION

Updated: Aug 23, 2023

CHINESE GOVERNMENT’S RESTRICTIVE MEASURES

In a significant development that has raised concerns globally, the Communist Party of China is intensifying its efforts to regulate and suppress churches in the country. Reports have emerged revealing that the Chinese government is now taking steps to manipulate the Bible by infusing it with socialist values and removing passages that do not align with select communist ideologies.

This move comes as a surprise to many, especially within the Christian community, as it clashes with the traditional teachings of the faith. In a recent incident, a Christian nurse and a child kidnapped by human traffickers have been released, shedding light on the ongoing challenges faced by Christians in China.

China, with one of the largest Christian populations in the world, has been witnessing an explosive growth of underground churches despite government regulations. The Communist Party's discomfort with the increasing Christian influence has led to a systematic crackdown on churches and religious freedoms. In a bid to exert even more control, the Chinese communist authorities have embarked on a 10-year project aimed at revising the Bible to align it with their own doctrines.

Disturbingly, there have been reports of changes to scripture, with certain passages being modified to fit the party's narrative. For instance, a Communist Party revision of John chapter, which discusses the story of the woman caught in adultery, has been altered to paint a different picture. The passage, which traditionally depicts Jesus intervening on behalf of the woman and encouraging compassion and self-reflection, has been reinterpreted to show Jesus stoning the woman himself, claiming to be a sinner as well.

The ramifications of these alterations are significant, as they aim to sow confusion among Christians and undermine their faith. The Chinese communist government's actions appear to be part of a broader strategy to exert control over the Christian community and suppress any potential challenge to its authority.

Furthermore, the government's control extends to digital platforms, where Bibles and Bible apps have been forcibly removed from e-commerce App Stores. Millions of Christian children have been compelled to renounce their faith publicly, signifying an alarming level of control exerted by the Chinese authorities.

A Chinese pastor has aptly summarized the situation, noting that while the rulers have identified an adversary, they are destined to fail in their attempts to imprison the Christian spirit.

As Christians in China navigate these challenges, concerns about the manipulation of religious texts and the suppression of religious freedom continue to grow, prompting international observers to closely monitor the situation and advocate for the rights of believers.

JOHN 8:7

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
